Share: Have you ever wandered fromyour parents?

Today’s Bible StoryWhen Jesus was twelve years old, his family and many other relatives andfriends walked to Jerusalem to be a part of a big festival. This special meal andcelebration was called Passover. It was a time when the Jewish peopleremembered how God had saved them long ago. When the feast was over, Joseph and Mary started home. They thought Jesuswas with them somewhere in the crowd. After they had traveled on for an entireday, Joseph and Mary noticed that Jesus was not with them or with the otherJewish children running around. None of their relatives or friends had seenHim either!

Mary and Joseph returned to Jerusalem to search for Jesus. After threedays, they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers of theLaw.Jesus was listening to them and asking them questions about theScriptures. The teachers of the Law were amazed at Jesus’ understanding ofGod’s Word and with the questions He asked.Mary and Joseph were astonished to find Jesus in the temple. Mary asked,“Why have You treated us like this? Your father and I have been troubledand worried, searching for You.”Jesus explained that He must be in His Father’s house! But Mary andJoseph did not understand Jesus’ words.

After that, Jesus left with His parents and did as they asked. Mary treasuredall these things in her heart. Jesus grew and became strong. He increased inwisdom, doing God’s will.

Questions Jesus said he had to be in His Father’s house. This was God’s will. Whatare some other ways that Jesus did His Father’s will?Preaching, Teaching, Healing, Bringing ussalvationEven when Jesus was a little baby and a little boy, God wasthinking about the cross and heaven. Even though you maynot see it in your life, God is always thinking about you andyour salvation.

Game: What was God’sAnswer?

Just as Mary and Joseph thought that Jesus should havebeen walking home with them, we have our own ideas ofwhat Jesus should do.Let’s read some examples.

Example #1I want my cold to go away right now! Iwas sick for three days and missed theclass Christmas party. What was God’s answer? My grandmother took care of meand let me help make bread. Sheread her favorite Bible stories to me.

Example #2I want to get a new skateboard. I didn’tget one, but my friend who has onetried some tricks and broke his leg. What was God’s answer?I made a card for him and told himthat I prayed for him.

Example #3I want a new dog. What was God’s answer?I got a fish and discovered I likedthem. My neighbor got a dog.

Example #6I want to play games in church, but mymom won’t let me.What was God’s answer?I listened to God’s Word and learnedmore about Him.

God invites us to pray to Him, but we cannot control Him.God wants us to trust His plans for us.His plan is for you to be saved and to come to the knowledgeof the truth. His plan is that the devil will not take you away from Him.God knows what is best for us, even if we don’t understandHis answers to our prayers.

In a very special prayer, the Lord’s prayer, we pray, “Thy willbe done.”Through these words, we are asking God to keep us from eviland to strengthen and keep up firm in His Word and faithforever.
