Objects in a drawing exist in a stackingorder, usually the order in which theyare created or imported. To change theorder of selected objects, use theArrange / Order menu.Complex shapesYou can use the Object flyout to draw polygons, grids, spiralsand two types of stars: perfect and complex. Use the Propertybar of each tool to change the number of sides, points, columns,rows and revolutions.Predefined shapesWorking with tablesA table provides a structured layout that lets you presenttext or images within a drawing. You can draw a table, oryou can create a table from paragraph text. You can easilychange the look of a table by modifying the table propertiesand formatting. In addition, because tables are objects, youcan manipulate them in various ways. You can also importexisting tables from a text file or a spreadsheet.To create a table:Using the Perfect Shapes collection, you candraw Basic, Arrow, Flowchart, Banner and Calloutshapes. Use the shape’s type picker on theProperty bar to select a specific shape from thecategory. You can then drag a glyph to modifythe appearance of some shapes.Adding and formatting textThere are two types of text you can add to drawings: artistictext and paragraph text. Shaping objectsFilling and outlining objectsTo start changing the shape of an object, click it with theShape tool to display its nodes. Corel CONNECTprovides an easy and quick way of findingcontent on your computer, local network, Corelcontent DVD and selected websites. You canbrowse or search for clipart, photo images,fonts, symbols, objects and file formats that aresupported, as well as content that is notsupported by CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5.The Mesh Fill tool lets you design multicoloredfilled objects with more fluid color transitions. TheSmooth Mesh Color option on the Property bar,and the Eyedropper and Color Picker, make iteasier to select or sample color for the mesh, soyou can achieve color transitions that retain thecolor richness.Pixels viewThe new Pixels view lets you create drawings in actual pixel units,providing a more accurate representation of how a design will appear onthe Web. Accessible from the View menu, the Pixels view mode helpsyou align objects more accurately.Export for Web dialog boxThe new Export for Web dialog box provides a single access point forcommon export controls, eliminating the need to open additional dialogboxes when preparing a file for export. Italso lets you compare the results ofvarious filter settings before you committo an output format, making it easier toachieve optimal results. In addition, youcan specify object transparencies andmatting colors for anti-aliased edges—allwith real-time preview.One other addition of note is the TransparencyPer Node option, which allows you to revealobjects behind individual nodes or patches in amesh.Document/Image dialog boxCorelDRAW X5 introduces a Create a New Document dialog box,which provides a selection of presets for page size, documentresolution, preview mode, color mode and color profiles.Color Palette Manager dockerThe enhanced Color Palette Manager Docker includes newPANTONE profiles such as the PANTONE Goe system and the Fashion Home palette. The ColorPalette Manager makes it easier to create, organizeand show or hide both default and custom colorpalettes. You can create Web-specific RGB palettesor print-specific CMYK palettes. For optimal colorconsistency, you can also add third-party colorpalettes when working with multiple applications.Convert to grayscaleDocument/Image palettesCorel PHOTO-PAINT X5 provides greater control when convertingimages to grayscale by letting you choose the range of colors used in theconversion. This eliminates results that appear washed out because ofpredominant blues or reds in the original photo. The new dialog boxprovides a preview window, which lets you adjust the colors to create amore realistic conversion.With both CorelDRAW X5 and Corel PHOTO-PAINTX5, a custom color palette is automatically createdon the fly for each design project. The palette is saved with the file,which gives you quick access to this project’s colors in the future. Corel PowerTRACE X5Convert your bitmap images into high-quality vector objects with evenmore precision and smoothness, thanks to the greatly enhanced CorelPowerTRACE. You can trace an image in one step by using the QuickTrace command. Alternatively, you can choose a suitable tracing methodand preset style and then use the Corel PowerTRACE controls topreview and adjust the traced results. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5offers two methods for tracing bitmaps: Centerline trace and CorelOutline trace. CorelDRAW offers two methods for tracing bitmaps:Centerline Trace and Outline Trace. Centerline tracing with CorelPowerTRACE produces more accurate curves or strokes for tracingtechnical illustrations, line drawings, or signatures. Improved smoothing,color, and corner control help youoptimize traced results.Drawing toolsA collection of new and enhanceddrawing tools includes a B-Splinetool, an Object Coordinates docker,scalable arrowheads, enhancedB-SplineConnector and Dimension tools, andthe new Segment Dimension tool.The B-Spline tool lets you createsmooth curves with fewer nodes than curves drawn by using freehandpaths. For maximum precision, the Object Coordinatesdocker lets you specify both the size of a new object and its locationon the page.Round cornersYou can now create chamfered, scalloped or roundcorners from the Rectangle Property bar. When youstretch a rectangle rounded corners are preservedwithout distortion, and the original radius of a corner ismaintained during scaling. In addition, corners arenow expressed in units of true radii, which makesthem easier to work with. You can stretch rectangleswith scalloped, chamfered and round corners withoutdistorting the corners.Global color managementFor CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5, the color management enginehas been completely redesigned. The new Default ColorManagement Settings dialog box lets you set default color profiles,policies and rendering intents for each application. This newapproach helps you easily achieve accurate color representationwhile also providing greater control for more advanced users.Document Color SettingsWith the introduction of the Document Color Settings dialog box, youcan adjust color settings that apply only to the current document.These document-specific settings override thedefault application settings while you are workingon that file.Color proof settingsAll color proof settings are grouped within a singledocker, which lets you save presets and prepareartwork for various output devices more efficiently.The docker helps you save time by providing a listof output devices which you can choose from to preview the output.When seeking approval from clients, you can easily export softproofs and print hard proofs from the docker.Color sampling optionsThe addition of the Eyedropper tool to various color dialog boxeslets you conveniently sample andmatch colors from a documentwithout closing the dialog box. Interactivecontrols let you preview changes quickly.CorelDRAW lets you import files (Ctrl I) created in otherapplications. For example, you can import a Portable DocumentFormat (PDF), JPEG, or Adobe Illustrator (AI) file. You can import afile and place it in the active application window as an object. Youcan also resize and center a file as you import it. The imported filebecomes part of the active file.Image Straightening LabThe Straighten image dialog box lets youstraighten bitmap images quickly. This feature isuseful for straightening photos that were taken orscanned at an angle.While importing a bitmap, you can resample it toreduce the file size, or crop it to eliminate unusedareas of the photo. You can also crop a bitmap toselect only theexact area andsizeof theimage you wantto import.Histogram feedbackEdit images more efficiently by previewing changes and comparingresults in real time as you adjust image tone, apply effects or processRAW camera files.To make importing easier, you can sort the filetypes by most recent, extension, text ordescription.Image Adjustment LabThe Image Adjustment Lab consists of automatic and manual controls,which are organized in a logical order for image correction. By starting inthe upper-right corner and working your way down, you can select onlythe controls you need to correct the problems specific to your image. It isbest to crop or retouch any areas of the image before beginning the colorand tone corrections.Exporting filesYou can export (Ctrl E) and save images to a variety of fileformats that can be used in other applications. For example, youcan export a file to the Adobe Illustrator (AI) or GIF format.Some file formats may not support all the features that aCorelDRAW (CDR) file has, so it is a good idea to save theoriginal file as a CorelDRAW (CDR) file before exporting it.TIP: If you are importing a textfile, have the Text tool selectedwhen you import.
